Exciting Announcement
I’m excited to announce that after three years of offering services in a shared space in West Seattle, I will be working with a small group of skilled multi-modal practitioners to open a day spa that will have four treatment rooms in 2027. About me
From the time I can remember, I always dreamed about running a small business, and fortunately, I did have that opportunity in the dental field. I was the child who had two full volume books about “How to Start a Business” in her closet at age 15. My first venture was at age 17 when I started my first company, Tres Jolie, where I made and distributed jewelry made from Guatemalan Trouble Dolls. This is how I met my first husband - he was my business partner.
In 2000, my ex husband decided to go to dental school at the University of Washington, and I was able to support him through the process of education, advanced education in implants, and purchasing and consolidating three dental practices. His practice, Enhanced Smiles, is still operating in Tukwila, Washington in a prime regional location across the street from the Southcenter Mall in the middle of the Tukwila Urban Village. I was involved in the day to day operations of the business (scheduling patients, preparing treatment plans, making collection calls, HR and staff training, and marketing). I was also a constant sounding board supporting him through the strategic decision making for the business. I enjoyed this so much, that when I had the chance I went back to school at the University of Washington for my Master of Public Administration, which is very similar to the MBA. I chose the MPA route because it related more closely to my full time day job as a public sector project manager / grants manager, which is still my main line of work.
In June 2019, after 27 years of marriage and being together, my ex husband and I parted ways. This was a very difficult time for me given that I lost my soul mate AND I also lost the flame that kept me going every day - the dental practice. A few months later, the world slowed down with COVID and I hibernated into a period of guided self reflection. I reached out to a highly skilled team of professionals, who I am so grateful to have had in my life in that time, and the result is where I am today, embarking on this exciting adventure of opening a spa.
My network includes Joni, the owner of Head to Toe Day Spa in West Seattle, who let me know that she tries to hire all of her estheticians from the Euro Institute of Skin Care in Renton, Washington. Upon hearing this advice, I started to visit their spa regularly, and in July, 2023, I enrolled in the program to be trained as an Esthetician.
After an amazing experience as a student at the Euro Institute where I learned to perform all of the basic skill of an esthetician including facial massage, diagnosing skin, holistic nutrition, Ayurveda practices, red and blue light therapy, facial peels, microdermabrasion, nanodermabrasion, and many more.
Working in their spa and seeing clients. I received valuable feedback there with clients saying that I had a calm demeanor that clients found very relaxing, and I gave good explanations and advice.
Immediately after graduating and passing my Washington State board certification, I furthered my exploration of Ayurvedic practices by attending the National Ayurvedic and Medical Practitioners conference in Vail, Colorado. This was recommended by Nickole Gonzalez, an Ayurvedic practitioner in West Seattle who had spent many years studying under Dr. Vassant Lad when he was in Arizona. At that time, Nickole offered to allow me to set up shared space in her practice on California Avenue.
As I continued searching and formulating my long term business plan for something larger and more inclusive, I continued to meet like minded practitioners who were interested in forming a collaboration. My handyman, Andy, recommended that I start conversation with a mutual friend who is a dentist, Mahnaz. She and I spent many hours visioning how her skills as a dentist and her interest in beauty and skin care would complement my background.
I am currently working with a commercial real estate agent to settle on a commercial space for lease, and I am visioning with an architect for my programmatic needs for retail, reception and four treatment rooms. I am working through the many details involved in setting up a spa space such as researching equipment and retail offerings.
I’m so excited for this next chapter and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the process. I couldn’t be there without all of the love and support of my close friends and family.
